Agreeing to these terms
By reading Sugarloom you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, the simplest remedy is to close the tab — no account, subscription or payment is involved at any point.
What Sugarloom is
Sugarloom is an editorial publication about artisanal candies and lollipops. We publish features, tasting notes, illustrations and technique explainers. We are not a shop: there are no product listings, no prices, no order forms and no checkout anywhere on this site.
Using our writing and illustrations
The articles, tasting notes and original SVG illustrations on this site are the work of the Sugarloom desk and its contributors. You are welcome to read, print and share them for personal, non-commercial use.
- Quote short passages with clear credit to Sugarloom and a mention of the article title.
- Link to the page you are citing rather than copying the whole piece.
- Ask first before reproducing illustrations, republishing a full feature, or using anything here commercially.
- Do not present our work as your own, and do not remove attribution.
Recipe and technique content
Temperatures, ratios and timings in our features describe how a particular maker worked on a particular day, in a particular kitchen, with particular equipment. They are editorial descriptions, not tested instructions for every kitchen.
Altitude, humidity, pan thickness, thermometer calibration and ingredient freshness all move the numbers. If you cook from something you read here, you do so at your own judgment and risk. Please also read the kitchen advisory before working with hot sugar.
No professional advice. Nothing on Sugarloom is medical, nutritional, dietary or safety advice. We describe flavor and craft. We do not make health claims about candy, and no article here should be read as a recommendation about diet or wellbeing.
Letters and contributions
When you send the desk a letter, a tip or a photograph, you keep ownership of it. You give us permission to read it, reply to it, and — if we ask and you agree — quote or publish part of it in a future issue. We will always confirm before publishing anything you sent.
Availability and accuracy
The site is provided as it stands. We work hard to keep facts straight and pages available, but we cannot promise uninterrupted access or error-free content. When a reader spots a mistake, we correct it and note the correction.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Sugarloom and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from applying anything you read here — including kitchen mishaps, ingredient costs or lost batches. Your use of the site is at your own discretion.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located in Buncombe County, North Carolina.
Revisions
We may revise these terms as the journal grows. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and continued reading after a change means you accept it.
