The short version
This website is a set of static pages. There is no account system, no comment platform, no checkout, no newsletter form and no analytics script. We do not build reader profiles, we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not run third-party advertising or tracking tags on these pages.
What the site stores in your browser
The storage notice at the bottom of each page uses one entry in your browser's local storage so that the notice does not reappear on every visit. That entry contains a single word confirming the notice was acknowledged. It is not an identifier, it is never transmitted anywhere, and it stays on your device.
- Local storage flag: remembers that you dismissed the storage notice.
- Cookies: the site itself sets none.
- Session or fingerprinting scripts: none are loaded.
You can clear the flag at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings. The notice will simply appear again on your next visit, and nothing else about your experience changes.
Interactive features stay local. The palate compass, the sugar stage studio and the flavor filter run entirely in your browser. Your selections are not recorded, transmitted or remembered between page loads.
Information you choose to send us
If you email the editorial desk, we receive the address you sent from, the message you wrote and any files you attached. We use that correspondence only to reply to you, to research a story you suggested, or to correct an error you pointed out.
Letters are kept in the desk mailbox for as long as they are useful to the story or the conversation, and are deleted when they are not. We never add correspondents to a mailing list, because we do not operate one.
Server logs
Like any website, the service that delivers these files may keep ordinary technical logs — for example the requested file, a timestamp and a general network address — for security and reliability. Sugarloom does not use those logs to identify individual readers, and does not combine them with anything else.
Children's privacy
Sugarloom is a general-interest craft publication written for adults who cook. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to the desk and we will delete the message.
Your choices
You may ask us what correspondence we hold from you, request a correction, or ask us to delete it. Send the request from the same address you originally used, and we will confirm once it is done. There is no form to fill in and no account to close.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it. Because the site stores almost nothing, we expect revisions to be rare and small.
